When I ran into James Ortolani at the SGIA Expo, he shared the news that he had been inducted into the SGIA Academy of Screen Printing Technology. This honor is bestowed upon SGIA members who have made significant contributions to the screen printing industry over their lifetime. Established in 1973 by the Board of Directors of the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association, the Academy of Screen Printing Technology (ASPT) recognizes individuals who have contributed to the technical growth and/or advancement of the screen printing industry. The ASPT is an international body of experts which honors qualified individuals through election to membership for their distinguished, long-term contributions to, and application and promotion of, screen and digital printing and associated imaging technologies for graphic, textile, industrial and electronic printing applications. This is a very elite and small group and James now keeps company with past inductees like Scott Fresener, Mark Coudray, Charlie Taublieb , Dave Dennings, Michel Caza and other screen printing industry greats. There was an awards dinner on Oct. 12 where James was presented with a plaque and he received a pin at the SGIA keynote breakfast on Thursday, Oct. 20. I have known James a long time, probably close to thirty years. I am very proud of his achievement and on behalf of everyone here at Stahls’ who knows James Ortolani, congratulations! If you don’t know James, click on any one of the links in this blog posting and you will be able to see some of the hundreds of educational articles he has written over the years for various industry publications.
Update: Just ran across this article in a local Pittsburgh, Kansas paper on James’ induction! Congratulations again!
