Josh had to fix a leaking fuel pump before getting back on the road. As the saying goes: Race, repair, repeat.
Trevor Stahl and Josh Hull took the Stars and Stripes out for some pre-Great Race rally racing May 14-16 and participated in the Thunderbolt Rally 2015 sponsored by the Northeast Rally Club in Millville, New Jersey. It was a great experience and they were even able to achieve their first “ACE” which in the rally world is a perfect score for a particular section of the course. No deductions, no time added. This is Josh’s first rally experience and he was really impressed at how welcoming and friendly the family of rally racers were to him. This feeling of camaraderie is one of the things that has kept us coming back year after year to participate in the Great Race. It’s so much more than a competition, it’s a lifestyle and a learning experience. Trevor and Josh finished first in the Rookie Class on Saturday and are looking forward to an even bigger challenge during the Great Race 2015. Congratulations to all the rally racers who participated!

Trevor and Josh were thrilled to earn the first place in the Rookie Class on Saturday during the Thunderbolt Rally.
I’m wondering why you refer to this rally as a race. A race is to see who is fastest for a given time or distance. A TSD rally, which is what most American style non-professionsl rallies are, is run to see who can most closely run a specified course in a specified time. Calling it a race puts the wrong view of the competition in the monds of those who are not familiar with automobile competition varieties.
Rally racing is still a race against the clock with a point to point format. The drivers drive between stages. You can win by speed within the stages or driving to a predetermined ideal journey time within those stages. I
Thanks for your comment Erin. Yes that is a good way to look at it and I will try to make that more clear in future posts. I have mentioned many times that the Great Race is not really a race, as Art Frederick points out. (Thanks for your comment Art!) Both the Great Race and the Thunderbolt Rally are rallies that are indeed a race against the clock. It’s not about speed or beating another car’s speed. It’s about navigating and driving a specific course in a pre-determined time. Thanks for reading.
