The Last State in the Great Race 2014

Well we did it, we crossed into Florida on June 28th, the last state in the Maine-Florida journey of the Great Race 2014. Along the way, we got to keep up with our “progressive” family reunion (Dan’s wife and son also joined us in Wilmington), and had the opportunity to meet with another daughter, her husband and their two children in Charleston. Our midday stop was in Savannah, Georgia, where the cobblestone streets are very beautiful and probably reminded a lot of the classic cars of what it used to be like when they were new. Thank goodness for modern-day shock absorbers. The scenery continues to impress us, especially the tall Georgia pine along the super straight roads, Mother Nature is a wonderful architect. We finally crossed the Georgia/Florida line and arrived into Jacksonville, Florida in the early evening. It seems as if the crowds that come out get bigger and bigger as we near the end. Sunday is the last day of the rally, it’s hard to believe it’s almost over once again. On a side note, the Spirit of Stahls’ teams were “lucky” enough today to receive the coveted “ACE” for completing the course exactly on the prescribed time, nothing over, nothing under. Congratulations to Thomas and Ben for their second ACE and to Brett, Dan and Trevor for their first ever ACE with the Packard.

We're glad that the grandkids could come out and visit in South Carolina.

This Great Race was especially great because of all the family we got to see along the way.

Although its much more comfortable, we miss our Auburn. It's just not the same. But we're thankful we could continue on the course.
