One of the most iconic symbols of New Year’s Eve and the ringing in of the New Year is the crystal ball dropping in Times Square. This tradition is a century old, but every year the ball itself is brought up to the latest technological standards. This year, the Waterford crystal ball received a new skin composed of 2,688 crystal triangles.  Stories about the ball were all over the news on Dec. 31, 2013, but what caught my eye was the very smart use of promotional wear by the company installing the crystal triangles. Kudos to Landmark Signs & Electric of Times Square, New York, for making sure their technicians were decked out in logoed jackets and caps during the highly televised preparation. Talk about free advertising. Happy New Year everyone!
