Power Play for Heroes Recap

The official puck drop at the 5th Annual Power Play for Heroes Event, November 10, 2018

Thank you to Jan Starr for this recap/write up about last weekend’s fundraising events:

The 2018 Power Play for Heroes Weekend, with all proceeds going to Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, was a great success – – – again. Veterans, employees, family and friends filled the St. Clair Shores Ice Arena on Saturday Nov. 10 for the Team Stahls – Detroit Red Wings Alumni annual game. The ice was fast, the play was spirited and the crowd was loud and the Red Wings Alumni led by Joe Kocur, Darren McCarty and John O’Grodnick won 8 – 5 – – – again. Alan Gaglio and Tyler Gulock were in net for Team Stahls. Co-Captain Paul Sabatini led Stahls’ scoring with two goals. Mark Merola, Dale Schives (In his first ever hockey game) and Chris Popp each notched a goal. Trevor Stahl and Scott Vallee provided two assists each. Following the game both teams and fans enjoyed pizza and conversation in the Rink Club Room. On Sunday – Veterans, employees, families and friends filled the Stahls’ Automotive Museum to celebrate and bring Veterans Day Weekend to a close. The celebration also marked the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day – the ending of WWI. Along the weekend we were inspired by comments from Veterans, the people at Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs and our own Dan Stahl. The presence of hockey legend Ted Lindsey as Honorary Coach of the Red Wings Alumni. The wonderful music at the Museum is hard to outdo, but it was, by our own Darry Wright with wonderful renditions of our National Anthem at the Hockey Game and the Museum. The Anchor Bay Jr. ROTC Honor Guard made sure “Old Glory” was front and center and Veteran’s from all the major conflicts helped remind us why we say “Thank you for your service”. There was a wonderful outpouring of financial supports from the two day events and their support was graciously matched by Mary and Ted. The total for the two days we believe will make it possible for another Medical Service Dog to be put in service to support our veterans and first responders. We thank everyone for all your hard work and commitment to make this weekend so very special.

A fantastic effort from all Team Stahls’ members.

It’s a family affair…these kids can’t wait for the day when they can take the ice for Team Stahls!

Thank you to Darry for sharing your patriotism and talent, performing the National Anthem at both the game and the museum event.
