It’s that time of year again, the time everyone has been waiting for. Yes, May 8th, my birthday! Oh and the NFL Draft that is taking place tonight.  As in years past, heat printing plays a crucial role in getting those new draftees their jerseys in under 90 seconds! Our team from Stahls’ Decorating Fulfillment Center, or DFC, is behind the scenes making those personalized jerseys possible (click here for New York Times article and video of us in action!) as the draft choices join their new teams on stage. It’s an exciting, stressful time and we can’t show you much of what goes on, but suffice it to say there is a high level of secrecy maintained. But one thing is no secret–heat printing makes it possible. Once again we’re ready to produce the personalized Nike jerseys for the 2014 NFL draft picks as soon as their names are announced. (We’ve done a little prep work, but have NO CLUE as to the order of the picks, just like the rest of the world.) Once the announcement is made, each name is heat printed on the respective jersey within 90 seconds of being announced on Live TV. All First Round Players will be greeted by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on stage and presented with their NFL Team jersey. You can watch it all happen, May 8-10, broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in NYC. If you can’t be there in person, here’s when to watch:

  • May 8, 8 p.m. ET, ESPN
  • May 9, 7-8 p.m. ET, ESPN; 8-11:30, ESPN2
  • May 10, 12-8 p.m. ET; ESPN

Not only will we be behind the scenes, fans will also have the opportunity to purchase a personalized Draft Day t-shirt at the venue in the Custom Zone. We have Hotronix heat presses set up and are using vinyl cutters to cut names on demand. We’re also using pre-cut Thermo-FILM numbers, right out of the box, to add numbers to shirts.

Ted, great article. I love the heat of the moment type production. I’ve seen the custom shops set up at the MLB All-Star Game and Super Bowl for on demand custom jerseys. A great solution for on demand printing for fans.
